A Massive Free Update For Beyond Blue
Get ready to dive back into the world of Beyond Blue, as a new update is now available for the game on PC and coming soon for consoles! This update will bring tons of new, free content to Beyond Blue, so first-time swimmers and veteran divers alike will want to "sea" what we’ve been up to.
Make a Splash in a New Region - The Tropical Reef!
This update introduces a brand new dive region for players to explore, the Tropical Reef. Swim among the coral and plant life, navigate underwater caverns, and check in on the underwater research base in the area.
It’s not all about the scenic sights down here - The Tropical Reef is also home to some new creatures to discover! The Zebra Shark, Ocellated Eagle Ray, and many more call this reef their home, on top of the large number of creatures already in the game. They help bring the Tropical Reef to life, while also providing Mirai with some obstacles to avoid while she’s completing Activities.
Test Your Swimming Skills with Activities!
Beyond Blue has always provided an engrossing narrative combined with exploration-based gameplay, but for those looking for something a bit more action-packed, Daily Activities are here to liven up your dives. Every day, a new Activity will be made available for you to check out from the Main Menu. These Activities can take place in any of the dive locations, including the brand-new Tropical Reef, and will test your proficiency in one of three challenges:
Point-to-Point Race - Swim through waypoints as fast as you can. The current waypoint is always green, while the next few waypoints are also visible in yellow; use this to help aim your swimming lines and anticipate where you need to go next! Some races are a single, winding path with a start and finish, but others are closed circuits that will have you completing multiple laps.
Scavenger Hunt - Follow the waypoint marker to each designated area. Once there, search for specific points to interact with. There are five search points in each area, and only one will contain a treasure - the others will have either power-ups or nothing at all. Try to find as many treasures as you can within the time limit!
Relay - Swim all across the map, picking up the marked treasures and returning them to a centralized treasure chest. Use the power-ups scattered around for a boost as you race to return as many as you can!
To help you do your best in these new Activities, Mirai has a tweaked moveset only available in Activity Mode: If you repeatedly tap the Fast Swim button with the right timing, you can keep going faster and faster! But watch out - hitting something in this state will leave you stunned. Depending on your performance in an activity, you will receive a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Medal, along with a reward of Sand Dollars! What purpose do those Sand Dollars serve, you may ask?
Swim in Style with New Suits!
You can use the Sand Dollars you earn from Activities to purchase new suits in the Dive Shop! As you complete in-game challenges, you’ll unlock the ability to purchase more and more suits. Suits can be equipped from the Main Menu or the Pause Menu at any time - even in Story Mode and Photo Mode - so feel free to experiment and see which looks you like best!
Take in the Views with Dive-In Theater!
Beyond Blue is a beautiful game, and sometimes that makes you just want to kick back and watch the world pass you by. We have you covered! Dive-In Theater is a laid-back experience where the camera automatically moves through Beyond Blue’s many environments and passes by its plethora of creatures. Leave it running as pleasant background noise while you work on other things, or watch along, basking in the beauty of the ocean. You’ll even unlock a few new suits in the process!
Frequently Asked Questions
Where’s the Tropical Reef?
The Tropical Reef region is not part of Story Mode or Free Dive and instead is accessed either through Activities or the Dive-In Theater from the Main Menu. There are a large number of activities that take place in regions from the base game as well as the Tropical Reef, and the available activity rotates daily. Meanwhile, the Tropical Reef is also available as an option in the Dive-In Theater - check out the “Wander the Sea” Dive.
Where are all the activities? I only see one!
Only one activity is available at a time, and they rotate every day. There are 25 activities in total, so check back often to see them all!
How do I Fast Swim?
Fast Swimming is only available in Activities, not Story Mode or Free Dive. To Fast Swim, press the Fast Swim Button (Spacebar on Keyboard, Left Trigger on Controller, and tapping the labeled button on mobile) with the appropriate timing to pick up and maintain speed. Use both the sounds and Mirai’s swimming animation to help find the right timing for each press!
Where’s my Scan Visor/Drone?
The Scan Visor and Manta Drone are not available during Activities. Don’t worry about scanning any of the new Tropical Reef creatures and just enjoy the activities!
Why do some outfits in the Dive Shop have a padlock on them while others have a Sand Dollar symbol?
Outfits in the Dive Shop must be purchased with the Sand Dollars you earn by completing activities, but they only become available for purchase after first clearing an unlock requirement. If an outfit has a padlock on it, you still need to meet the unlock requirement - go over to the outfit and it will tell you what that requirement is. If an outfit has the Sand Dollar symbol instead, then you are free to purchase it provided you have enough Sand Dollars!
What do the power-ups do?
Power-ups only appear during the Scavenger Hunt and Relay activities, and they consist of the following…
TIMER
Adds 15 seconds to the timer
STRONG LEGS
You speed up way quicker when using Fast Swim
FAST HANDS
